How to Use This Course
Follow the Sequence
We recommend working through modules in order. Each module builds on the concepts introduced in the previous one.
Hands-On Practice
Every module includes hands-on exercises (marked with Practice blocks). Complete these exercises in your own OpenClaw environment.
Self-Assessment
At the end of each module you will find:
- Practice questions: Open-ended prompts encouraging deeper exploration
- Quick quizzes: Multiple-choice questions for a fast comprehension check
Community Interaction
When you get stuck:
- Check the "Common Mistakes" and "Troubleshooting" sections within the module
- Ask in the
#masterclasschannel on OpenClaw Discord - Search or start a thread on GitHub Discussions
Quick Start
Ready to go? Start with the first module.
# Confirm OpenClaw is installed correctly
openclaw --version
# Run the system health check
openclaw doctor
# Begin your MasterClass journey
openclaw start
Throughout the course, always follow security best practices. In particular:
- Always bind to
127.0.0.1, never0.0.0.0 - Prefer Podman over Docker
- Check the review status before installing any skill from ClawHub

About OpenClaw
OpenClaw is an open-source AI Agent platform created by Peter Steinberger, with over 250,000 stars on GitHub. It runs entirely on your local machine, independent of cloud services (except for LLM API calls), giving you full control over your data.
Core Features
- Four-layer architecture: Gateway, Reasoning Layer, Memory System, Skills/Execution Layer — each layer has clear responsibilities and scales independently
- ClawHub marketplace: Over 13,000 community-contributed skills, installed with
clawhub install <author>/<skill> - Persistent memory: Through Write-Ahead Logging and Markdown Compaction, your agent retains important information across conversations
- Sandbox security: All skills execute in isolated containers (Podman recommended) to protect the host system
- Personalization: Use SOUL.md to define agent personality and SKILL.md to define skill behavior
- Automation: Heartbeat system for proactive notifications and cron scheduling for timed tasks
Why OpenClaw
Compared to other AI Agent frameworks, OpenClaw's advantages include:
- Local-first: Data stays on your machine — privacy by design
- Rich ecosystem: 13,000+ skills covering most use cases
- Security-oriented: Post-ClawHavoc security mechanisms are significantly hardened
- Active community: 250K+ GitHub Stars, thriving Discord and Reddit communities
- Highly configurable: From SOUL.md personality to memory retention policies, everything is customizable
